LCSD Participants Wanted for Steamboat Challenge
Thursday, September 5, 2019
This is a call for students (and Parent STEM Coaches) in Liverpool Central School District Grades 4-12 who are interested in participating in the MOST Steamboat Challenge being held at the MOST on Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students in elementary, middle and high school will work in teams of up to three (plus 1 team leader) to build a steamboat (6" wide and 8" long from front to the back) out of recycled materials and that runs on steam created by the heat of a standard 1.53” tea candle. Students are judged on the speed of their boat, the team’s presentation to judges about how they built the boat and what they learned, as well as the team’s creativity and innovation in designing the boat. Top finishers race in the finals. Awards are given in three categories:
- Division I: Grades 4-6
- Division II: Grades 7-8
- Division III: Grades 9-12
